Russia has claimed to have killed several Ukrainian special forces soldiers who were landing by helicopter, though Ukrainian officials have denied these claims and insisted that their forces are not surrounded in the area. This struggle for control of Pokrovsk is part of Russia’s broader effort to dominate the eastern Donetsk region and make significant territorial gains.
